Best of Us — Privacy Policy

1. Introduction
Best of Us ("the App," "our Service") is owned and operated by Nadal Alyafaie ("we," "us," "our"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal information with care and transparency.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and what rights you have over your data. It applies to all users of the Best of Us mobile application on iOS and Android.
By creating an account and using Best of Us, you agree to the collection and use of your information as described in this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

2. Information We Collect
Information You Provide Directly
Name and email address when you create an account
Relationship information provided during onboarding questionnaires
Messages and responses you send to the AI relationship coach
Profile information such as your avatar or photo
Any other information you voluntarily submit within the App
Information From Your Partner When you pair with a partner in Best of Us, your partner also provides information through their own account. The AI coach draws upon both partners' data when generating responses. See Section 6 for a full explanation of how this works.

App usage data such as session length and features accessed
Crash reports and performance data
IP address and general location (country/region level)
Payment Information We do not collect or store your payment card details. All subscription payments are processed directly by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We only receive confirmation of your subscription status via RevenueCat.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
Create and manage your account
Enable partner pairing and the shared AI coaching experience
Generate personalized AI coaching responses through OpenAI
Process and manage your subscription via RevenueCat
Send you push notifications related to your coaching experience (see Section 8)
Analyze app usage to improve the Service via Expo Analytics
Respond to your support requests
Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or violations of our Terms of Service
Comply with applicable legal obligations
We do not use your data for advertising purposes and we do not sell your data to third parties.
4. How the AI Coach Uses Your Data
What Gets Sent to OpenAI Best of Us uses OpenAI to power the AI relationship coach. When you or your partner send a message to the coach, relevant context — including your messages, questionnaire responses, and relationship history — is transmitted to OpenAI's API to generate a response. This data is sent securely over encrypted connections.
Both Partners' Data Informs AI Responses When the AI coach responds to either partner, it may draw upon information provided by both partners. This is fundamental to how Best of Us works — the coach is informed by both sides of the relationship in order to provide balanced, contextual coaching. While your partner cannot directly read your messages, your data may influence the coaching responses your partner receives, and vice versa. By pairing with a partner and using the App, you explicitly consent to this data model.
OpenAI's Data Handling Your data sent to OpenAI is subject to OpenAI's API data usage policies. As of the date of this Policy, OpenAI does not use data submitted via the API to train its models by default. We encourage you to review OpenAI's privacy policy at openai.com/privacy for the most current information.
Our Retention of Conversation Data We store your conversation history with the AI coach in our database (Supabase) for as long as your account is active. This history is used to provide continuity in your coaching experience. Upon account deletion, all conversation data is permanently and immediately deleted from our systems.
5. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share your data only in the following limited circumstances:
Third-Party Service Providers We work with the following service providers who process data on our behalf:
Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage. Your account data, messages, and media are stored on Supabase's infrastructure.
OpenAI — powers the AI relationship coach. Relevant conversation context is transmitted to OpenAI's API to generate responses.
RevenueCat — manages subscription status and in-app purchase validation. RevenueCat receives your app store user ID and subscription state.
Firebase (Google) — delivers push notifications to your device via Firebase Cloud Messaging.
Expo — provides app analytics including usage patterns and session data.
Apple / Google — process subscription payments through their respective app stores.
Each of these providers has their own privacy policy and data handling practices. We only share the minimum data necessary for each provider to perform their function.
Legal Requirements We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, court order, or governmental authority, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.
Business Transfer If Best of Us is acquired, merged, or its assets are transferred to another party, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you in advance if this occurs.
What We Never Do
We never sell your personal data to third parties
We never share your data with advertisers
We never share your individual messages or relationship data with your partner directly
6. Couples Pairing & Partner Data
Independent Accounts Each partner maintains their own independent account. You cannot view, access, or modify your partner's account, messages, or personal information directly.
Shared AI Context The AI relationship coach is designed to be informed by both partners' perspectives. When generating responses, the AI may reference information shared by either partner. This shared context is what enables Best of Us to provide balanced relationship coaching. By accepting a pairing invitation, both partners consent to their data being used in this shared AI context model.
Unpairing Either partner may unpair at any time. Upon unpairing, the shared relationship coaching context will no longer be active. Each partner's individual account and data remains intact.
Partner Account Deletion If your partner deletes their account, your account will be unlinked and returned to an unpaired state. Your own data remains in your account and is unaffected by your partner's decision to leave the App.
Independent Privacy Rights Each partner has independent rights over their own data. One partner cannot request deletion, access, or modification of the other partner's data on their behalf.
7. Data Retention & Deletion
While Your Account Is Active We retain your personal information, conversation history, questionnaire responses, and account data for as long as your account remains active in order to provide continuity of the Service.
Account Deletion When you delete your account through the App (Settings → Account → Delete Account), the following data is permanently and immediately deleted from our systems:
Your profile and personal information
All conversation history with the AI coach
Your questionnaire responses
Your uploaded photos or avatar
Your pairing and relationship data
This deletion is immediate and irreversible. We do not maintain backups of deleted user data after account deletion is confirmed.
What We Cannot Delete Apple and Google retain transaction and billing records for their own legal and financial compliance purposes. These records are outside our control and are governed by Apple's and Google's own privacy policies.
Subscription Billing After Deletion Deleting your account does not automatically cancel your subscription. Please cancel your subscription through your app store settings before or after deleting your account to avoid future charges. See Section 4 of our Terms of Service for cancellation instructions.
8. Push Notifications
Best of Us uses Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) to send push notifications to your device. We may send notifications related to:
Coaching prompts and relationship check-ins
Partner activity (such as a pairing request)
Subscription reminders
App updates or announcements
Opting Out You can disable push notifications at any time through your device settings:
iOS: Settings → Notifications → Best of Us
Android: Settings → Apps → Best of Us → Notifications
Disabling notifications does not affect your access to the Service.
9. Children's Privacy
Best of Us is intended for users who are at least 17 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 13. If we become aware that a user under 13 has created an account, we will immediately delete their account and associated data. If you believe a minor under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at the email in Section 14.
10. Your Privacy Rights
California Residents — CCPA If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):
Right to Know — You may request a copy of the personal information we have collected about you
Right to Delete — You may request deletion of your personal information (you can do this directly in-app via Settings → Account → Delete Account)
Right to Opt Out of Sale — We do not sell your personal information, so this right does not apply
Right to Non-Discrimination — We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights

European Users — GDPR If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have the following rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):
Right of Access — Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
Right to Rectification — Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
Right to Erasure — Request deletion of your personal data ("right to be forgotten")
Right to Data Portability — Request your data in a structured, machine-readable format
Right to Restrict Processing — Request that we limit how we use your data
Right to Object — Object to our processing of your data in certain circumstances
Right to Withdraw Consent — Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time
Our legal basis for processing your data under GDPR is:
Contract performance — to provide the Service you have signed up for
Legitimate interests — to improve the Service and ensure security
Consent — for optional features such as push notifications
To exercise any GDPR rights, contact us at the email in Section 14. We will respond within 30 days. If you are unsatisfied with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
11. Data Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. These measures include:
Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
Supabase's built-in security and access controls
Authentication and session management via Supabase Auth
Restricted access to production data
However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your data. In the event of a data breach that affects your rights, we will notify you as required by applicable law.
12. International Data Transfers
Best of Us is operated from the United States. Your data is stored on Supabase's infrastructure, which may be located in the United States. If you are accessing the App from the EU, EEA, or other regions with data protection laws that differ from US law, please be aware that your data will be transferred to and processed in the United States.
For EU users, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) and Supabase's and OpenAI's GDPR compliance frameworks as the legal mechanism for transferring your data outside the EEA. By using the App, you consent to this transfer.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document. For significant changes — particularly those affecting how we use your data — we will notify you via in-app notification or email prior to the change taking effect.
Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to the updated Policy, you must stop using the App and delete your account.
